The Gig in Arnheim
.... rushing to the concert ...
We attended the gig in Arnheim on 22.11.2004.

The Sailor - Rubettes concert was scheduled for Monday evening. No problem for this family, right!? - considering Fabian had to attend school on Tuesday and to tell you the truth, I do like to get just a little sleep before I get to go to work again ;-)
However, we decided spontaneously and despite these "tiny" obstacles to drive off to Arnheim anyway. After all, we had never attended a Sailor concert and the Rubettes will be touring in the UK for quite a while next year - not a place we are likely to see them.

I would have loved to leave work a little earlier that Monday - but we simply had too much work to do. I got home right around 5 o'clock. Not much time left - just enough to hit the shower and fetch a couple of sandwiches Tina had fixed for me - and off we went.
We were concerned that we would encounter lots of rush hour traffic - but we were lucky. We got to Holland in good time. Once we had arrived in Arnheim, we had a few "orientation" problems - mostly where to find a parking spot. However, we still managed to make it early. The Musis Sacrum is an incredibly beautiful building. We stayed outside for a little bit just to enjoy the view. It was just as beautiful inside.

We had just enough time for a Cappuccino before the concert started. Even though the venue wasn't entirely sold out, the party atmosphere was going strong. I got the impression that Sailor was very much in tune with the audience - and the audience responded going along with all the fun while having an absolute blast.
When our son needed to go to the restroom, we ran into Alan outside. Shooting the breeze with him for a while, Mick and Mark joined us too.

We ended up meeting the entire Rubettes-Dutch Team. They informed us that Nannette was going through another surgery and was presently in the hospital. The Rubettes had visited her that afternoon. We'd like to take this opportunity once more to send her our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Holland.
A little later, I got the opportunity to observe the sound check. Really interesting stuff ... Briefly after that, the show got started. The Rubettes carried on in a fabulous mood, joked around on stage and were right in tune with the audience. The atmosphere was fun. After the performance, they signed autographs for the fans. Unfortunately, we couldn't stick around - it was already way past Fabian's bedtime. So, off we went ... home sweet home ...
