The gig at the Kaleidoscope
The Rubettes feat. Alan Williams performed their first gig in Germany for 2006 in the city of Gronau. A good reason for us to say "Hi" again. The ride was without any significant problems, we only sat in one traffic jam and we didn't get lost for a change :-)
Hence, we actually got to the event location called "Kaleidoscope" early on. The "Kaleidoscope" is a discotheque right next to the local town hall. Luckily, we ran into the very kind concert organizer. He informed us that the Rubettes were in the middle of their sound-check. Of course - we wanted to see that.
It was quite busy inside the place. Bars were set up, tables and chairs were placed all over, lights were checked - and entirely oblivious to all of that - the band was on stage rehearsing. The Rubettes weren't satisfied with the sound and were searching for the reason. Wulfi, the guys' the stagehand, did a great job and the problems were resolved pretty quickly. Now it was time for the cover band "The Session" to set up - and we got to greet the Rubettes. Since we were all starving, we had dinner first.
The food was great and we had interesting conversations. After having coffee, we watched "The Session." The cover band performed several hit records with their own fans in the audience. After their gig, the DJ played pre-recorded music during intermission. The audience got quite bored since the break was a little too long.
The show didn't start up again until after midnight. Though some of the mikes went out during the Rubettes' performance, they stayed cool and shared the remaining mikes until the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, no Taiko show this time.
After the show, we had to say goodbye pretty quickly to get back. We arrived home around 5:30 - tired and happy. We'd like to thank the concert organizer once more for being such a wonderful host.
