The Gig in Saarbrücken
On 23.10.2004 we started our trip to Saarbrücken around lunchtime. The weather was great and the freeway was quite empty getting us there quickly, so we could even check into our hotel early. After a little break and a good meal we headed on over to the hotel where the bands were staying and reached the Saarlandhallen venue via autocade.
We got there early on and were able to attend Pussycat's performance. Their singer performed solo but she sure had the audience going. However, we needed some more coffee since our day had started mighty early and the entire week had been extremely busy.
When Boney M hit the stage, I got the impression that Tony wasn't feeling quite well but didn't want anybody to know about it. Their performance was excellent. All in all, the band gave an impressive gig. They had to leave immediately since another concert was scheduled for that day and the drive was going to be a good 3 hours long.
Harpo was next on stage. As usual - barefoot - he gave a great performance heavily involving his audience. I got to talk with him a little after the show and he was telling me how much fun he had at this gig and how he enjoyed the performance.
The Rubettes came on after Harpo. They had changed their routine and added a new Acapella medley. They were already singing it backstage. I loved it! After the Rubettes' performance we had to quickly return to the hotel. Our son had accompanied us and he was very, very tired. Unfortunately, we missed the Tremeloes' performance ... but after all, we still had a long trip ahead of us the next day ...
